Brittanys are one of the healthier popular breeds. Hip dysplasia exists at low to moderate rates, generally below most retrievers. Epilepsy is the most well-known breed-specific neurological issue. Hypothyroidism comes up. Most Brittanys live 12 to 14 years and stay structurally sound through middle age.
Gastrointestinally, the breed is mostly steady. Some lines pick up mild food sensitivities or seasonal skin issues. Working Brittanys, which the breed is bred for, accumulate joint wear from years of field work that shows up in middle age.
